Prof. Dr. Türker KILIÇ — Professor of Brain Surgery

Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç is a professor of brain surgery and a scientist devoted to understanding the brain. Having trained at Hacettepe, Marmara, and Harvard Universities, Dr. Kılıç completed his doctoral degree in anatomy.

Prof. Kılıç was elected to the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in 2015 and to the World Academy of Art and Science in December 2021. He is the only scientist in Turkey elected to both of these prestigious Academies. In July 2025, Prof. Kılıç was elected to the Board of Trustees of the World Academy of Art and Science, becoming the first neurosurgeon to serve on its Board of Trustees.

Currently serving as Dean of İstinye University Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Kılıç is also the Founding Dean of Bahçeşehir University Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Kılıç is the longest-serving medical dean in Turkey.

Prof. Kılıç has served as a visiting faculty member at more than 10 universities, including Harvard Medical School, Yale, Politecnico di Milano, and Johns Hopkins University.

Kılıç has received over 100 professional achievement awards, including the European Association of Neurosurgical Societies (EANS) Aesculap Scientific Research Award in 1999, and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons Tumor Research Awards in 2001 and 2005.

Dr. Kılıç has performed surgical treatment for a total of more than 30,000 patients using microsurgery and gamma-knife surgery techniques. In this process, he has played a role in training 50 of his students as neurosurgeons and in 400 medical students becoming physicians.

Dr. Kılıç, with an H-index of 41 and more than 200 scientific publications that have received over 6,000 citations, made significant contributions to the discovery of Glivec — a drug found for various brain surgery methods and brain tumors but whose primary application is in blood cancer. Approximately 200,000 new patients worldwide are treated with this drug every year.

He was among the first to use Gamma-Knife Radiosurgery in Turkey, and among the first to introduce Tumor Bank and Intraoperative MRI applications.

In addition to scientific research, Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç works on Medical Education and Science Education; his talks on science and science education have been watched by more than 10 million people online.

He is the founding president of the Turkey Brain Foundation, established in 2020, and of the Istanbul Neurological Sciences Institute.

He is the author of the book titled “New Science: Connectivity, New Culture: Coexistence” published by Ayrıntı Publications in February 2021, which has gone through 10 printings. His autobiography was also published by Epsilon Publishing House, written by Mert İnan, under the title “A Life Journey from What is Brain to What is Life: Türker Kılıç”. Prof. Dr. Türker Kılıç is also the author of the book titled “How Do We Build a Better and More Beautiful Life? The Answer of Neuroscience” published by Doğan Publications in September 2024.
